Can someone provide the exact hard drive price in Nigeria for a 1TB external HDD compared to a 1TB external SSD?

My laptop storage is completely full and I urgently need to offload years of family photos, movies, and project files. I am looking to buy a 1 Terabyte external drive. I know there are two main types: traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and newer Solid State Drives (SSD). SSDs are faster and more durable, but they are also much more expensive. What is the current hard drive price for a 1TB HDD from brands like Seagate or Western Digital, and how does it compare to the price of a 1TB external SSD from Samsung or SanDisk? For simple long-term backup of photos and videos, is it truly worth paying the massive premium for an SSD?

For a traditional 1TB External Hard Disk Drive (HDD) from reliable brands like Western Digital (WD) or Seagate, the current price ranges from 55,000 to 75,000 Naira. These drives use spinning magnetic disks inside. On the other hand, a 1TB External Solid State Drive (SSD) from brands like Samsung (like the T7 shield) or SanDisk Extreme costs between 140,000 and 180,000 Naira. Yes, the price difference is massive, but the technology difference justifies it. An external SSD transfers files up to 10 times faster than an HDD. Copying 50GB of movies to an HDD might take 15 minutes, whereas an SSD will do it in less than 2 minutes. Furthermore, SSDs have no moving parts inside.

When comparing the hard drive price and deciding if the SSD premium is worth it for your specific use case, you must consider durability. If you only plan to back up old family photos and movies, put the drive in a drawer, and rarely touch it, the cheaper 1TB HDD is perfectly fine. It offers the most storage for the lowest price. Beware of fake 2TB or 4TB external SSDs sold on Instagram for 30,000 Naira. They are scams. They put a tiny 16GB memory card inside a large metal casing and hack the software to display a fake capacity. Buy only from verified tech stores.
