Beyond the purchasing price, every mechanic I speak to warns me against buying a BMW in Nigeria, claiming the electrical issues and sensor failures will bankrupt me. Are these cars genuinely that unreliable, or is it just a lack of competent BMW specialists in the country? Please advise me on what to expect.

The bmw x6 price in nigeria for a 2018 model in the foreign used market is currently between 35 Million and 45 Million Naira. The X6 is an absolute head-turner. It invented the coupe-SUV segment and has incredible road presence. The xDrive35i uses a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine, while the xDrive50i uses a monstrous 4.4L twin-turbo V8. If you value your sanity and your bank account, stay far away from the V8 (xDrive50i). The BMW N63 V8 engine is notoriously one of the most unreliable engines ever built. It suffers from severe valve stem seal leaks, timing chain stretching, and the twin turbos located inside the "hot V" of the engine literally bake the plastic engine components to death. The inline-6 (xDrive35i) is vastly more reliable and still provides plenty of power for Nigerian roads.

The rumors about maintenance are not entirely exaggerated, which is why the resale value and the bmw x6 price in nigeria drop so fast. BMWs are over-engineered. They use dozens of plastic cooling pipes and electronic sensors. In the hot Nigerian climate, these plastic coolant pipes become brittle and crack after 60,000 miles. If you love the coupe SUV look, look at the Mercedes GLE Coupe instead. It is slightly more expensive, but the Mercedes V6 engine is much more forgiving of Nigerian conditions than the BMW engines.
