I just survived a terrible tire blowout on the highway yesterday, and I have realized that driving on worn-out tires is a death sentence. I need to replace all four tires on my 2009 Toyota Corolla immediately. The tire size is 205/65R15. I want very high-quality brands that can withstand the sharp potholes on Nigerian roads. What are the genuine tyre prices in nigeria for premium brands like Michelin, Bridgestone, or Maxxis? I am strongly against buying fairly used (tokunbo) tires because you never know their internal structural damage. How do I check the manufacturing date code on the tire to ensure the seller is not giving me expired rubber?

For a standard Toyota Corolla size (205/65R15), a brand new Michelin or Bridgestone tire will cost between 85,000 and 120,000 Naira per tire. Yes, buying four will cost you almost half a million Naira, but these tires offer unmatched grip on wet roads and the rubber compounds degrade very slowly. If Michelin is out of your budget, Maxxis and Dunlop are phenomenal mid-range options. A brand new Maxxis tire in that size will cost about 55,000 to 70,000 Naira. Maxxis tires are particularly favored in Nigeria because their sidewalls are reinforced and surprisingly resilient against the sharp edges of deep potholes.

You are absolutely right to reject fairly used (tokunbo) tires, but even when paying the brand new tyre prices in nigeria, you must be vigilant about expired rubber. Rubber degrades and hardens over time, even if the tire has never been driven on and still has the factory stickers. A hardened tire will burst at high speeds on the highway. To check the manufacturing date, look at the sidewall of the tire for a four-digit code stamped inside a small oval (e.g., "3422"). After spending so much money on four brand new tires, you MUST do a wheel alignment and balancing immediately. If your car alignment is bad, it will completely chop and ruin the edges of your expensive new tires in less than 3 months.
