Could anyone provide the current Dangote or BUA cement price in nigeria per bag for a building project?

I am currently at the foundation stage of my building project in Ogun State. The cost of building materials seems to change every single week, making it impossible to budget properly for my contractor. I need to buy about 300 bags of cement to cast the German floor. What is the current retail and wholesale cement price in nigeria for top brands like Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, and Lafarge? Is there any structural difference in the quality of these three brands when used for concrete casting and block laying? If I buy directly from major distributors in bulk (like a trailer load), how much discount should I expect per bag?

For your foundation casting, the current cement price in nigeria is highly volatile, but as of late 2023 to 2024, the retail price per 50kg bag fluctuates between 7,500 and 9,500 Naira. This price depends heavily on your location and the transportation logistics. Dangote, BUA, and Lafarge are the big three, and their prices are usually within a 300 Naira difference of each other. Regarding your question about quality: For a standard residential building, there is no structural difference between the three brands. They all meet the required Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS). However, bricklayers and concrete casters often have personal preferences based on the "setting time." Lafarge (Elephant Cement) is known to dry and set incredibly fast, which is excellent for casting concrete pillars on a rainy day. Dangote has a slightly smoother texture, which is great for the final wall plastering.

When dealing with bulk purchases, the wholesale cement price in nigeria offers a slight relief. If you are buying 300 bags, you do not need a full trailer (a standard trailer carries 600 or 900 bags), but you are buying enough to get a distributor discount. Major distributors will usually give you a discount of about 300 to 500 Naira per bag compared to the street retail price. However, the catch is transportation and offloading. The distributor might sell to you at 7,800 Naira per bag, but you will have to pay for a truck to transport it to your site in Ogun State, and pay the "agberos" (local laborers) about 100 Naira per bag to offload it. Ensure your site has a perfectly dry, raised, and fully covered storage room. If cement absorbs any moisture from the ground overnight, it will turn into useless solid rocks.

I am building in Ikorodu. I bought BUA cement last week for 8,200 Naira per bag. My engineer prefers BUA for the block laying and Dangote for the casting. Just make sure the bags are not hard when they deliver them. If a bag is hard, reject it instantly.

Always buy your cement in batches. Do not buy all 300 bags at once if your workers cannot use it all within two weeks. Cement loses its binding strength if stored for too long in our humid Nigerian climate.

Beware of massive discounts. If someone offers you Dangote cement for 6,000 Naira a bag right now, it is stolen goods, expired cement, or a complete scam where they will collect your money and disappear. Buy only from massive, established depots.
