How has the recent acquisition by Titan Trust changed the working culture at Union Bank of Nigeria – Lagos?
Union Bank is a heritage brand that recently went through a massive transition after being acquired by the much younger Titan Trust Bank. I am evaluating a mid-level operations role at Union Bank of Nigeria – Lagos. Mergers and acquisitions usually come with a lot of internal friction, cultural clashes, and job redundancies. Can current employees shed light on what the atmosphere is like right now? Has the new management modernized the banking applications and improved staff welfare, or is there a heavy atmosphere of uncertainty among the older Union Bank staff?

23 hours agoThe acquisition of Union Bank of Nigeria – Lagos by Titan Trust Bank is one of the most fascinating events in Nigerian banking history. Titan Trust, a very young and aggressive bank, essentially swallowed a 100-year-old giant. For current staff, the transition has completely shifted the culture. The old Union Bank was notoriously slow, heavily unionized, and deeply bureaucratic. The new Titan Trust management has aggressively shaken things up. They are injecting a fast-paced, modern, and highly commercial mindset into the operations. As a mid-level operations staff, you are joining at a time of massive modernization. They are currently overhauling the legacy IT systems and optimizing branch processes to make the bank leaner and much more profitable.

23 hours agoRegarding staff welfare and the internal atmosphere at Union Bank of Nigeria – Lagos: There is naturally some anxiety among the older staff who are used to the slow pace, but for young, energetic professionals, this is a golden opportunity. The new management is actively looking for smart people to lead the transformation. Job redundancies mostly affected top-heavy management roles during the takeover; core operations and tech staff are highly valued right now. The salary structure has been harmonized and is very competitive. The work environment is rapidly becoming less rigid and more results-oriented. If you are innovative and can help streamline their operational bottlenecks, the new CEO and management team will notice you quickly and promote you fast.

23 hours agoI survived the Titan Trust takeover. It was tense at first, but the new management is actually very brilliant. They are investing heavily in our digital banking apps which were terribly outdated before.

23 hours agoThe "civil service" mentality is completely dead here now. If you want to come to work, read newspapers, and go home by 4 PM, you will be fired. The bank is now very aggressive about capturing market share.
